“I really enjoy PHSE because we get to express how we are feeling. We learn about our rights and how important it is to respect each other, it also helps us to stay safe and positive.”
At St Leo’s and Southmead we use the Jigsaw approach throughout school in order to deliver the PSHE curriculum.
Jigsaw PSHE is a comprehensive Scheme of Work for the whole Primary School from Nursery through to Year 6. It brings together Personal, Social and Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning.
Jigsaw offers a comprehensive Programme for Primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others. Our RHSE curriculum is also supplemented using lessons from the Sheffield RHSE curriculum.
With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw equips us to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness, allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
The 6 Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces (half-termly units) are designed so the whole school can study the same themes at the same time, at each year group’s correct level. The Puzzle Pieces are sequential and developmental through each academic year. Throughout the year, we link our Core Value Focus for the month to the Puzzle Pieces. The puzzle pieces are:
· Being Me
· Celebrating Differences
· Dreams and Goals
· Healthy Me
· Relationships
· Changing Me
